A New and Correct Edition of the American Geography;

Early edition of this highly important work on America with some of the earliest maps of the States and territories.

Jedidiah Morse (1761-1826) produced this as the first geography textbook deliberately oriented towards the forming United States. The first edition came out in 1789, the year George Washington was first elected President, and was completed when a second volume was released in 1793. It would go on to be released almost yearly, and earn Morse the nickname of 'father of American geography.'

In this edition the two large folding maps of the Southern and Northern States are present, showing the United States before western expansion, and includes the known territories of many of the Native American tribes such as the Chocktaw, Muscogee, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Seminole, Iroquois, Algonquin, and Huron.
