Containing Goldsmith's most famous narrative poems including 'The Traveller,' 'The Hermit,' and 'Deserted Village,' alongside shorter poems and excerpts from his famous plays, including the epilogue to She Stoops to Conquer (1771). Begins with a 34-page introductory memoir by Scottish writer and academic, William Spalding (1809-1859), who also contributed to the eighth edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica.
