A handsome copy of the Tytler's classic life of the English adventurer and statesman Sir Walter Raleigh, this copy gifted by the English naturalist Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797-1879) to his sister 'Beatrice Perceval from her aff[ectionate] brother W.C. Trevelyan, Nettlecomb, 1st Dec[ember] 1833'.

Second edition; 8vo (16.5 x 11 cm); engraved frontispiece, vignette half-title, presentation inscription in pen to front endpaper verso, old binder's ticket to front pastedown, slight spotting and offsetting to opening and final ff; contemporary half calf by Jeffries & Sons of Bristol, marbled boards, gilt spine in 6 compartments, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece, edges stained red, a little rubbed, very good; 468pp.
