Leningrad, Ogiz Molodaia Gvardiia, 1931
Teodor Pevzner (1904-1942) studied at Vkhutemas before turning to children's book design. This is one of two works that Pevzner and renowned Russian playwright Evgenii Shvarts worked on together in 1931, the other being titled The Farmyard. The two books were published in the same style and format and therefore were most likely intended to compliment each other as a pair. Pevzner's style is wonderfully creative and reflects his background in the avant-garde, using staggered perspective and bright contrasting colours to create vivid scenes. Both books are notably scarce.
Sole edition, small 8vo; 10pp., chromolithographed throughout; in the original publisher's wrappers, a fine example.
