First British Commonwealth edition of The Making of Americans by Gertrude Stein. First published in Paris in 1925 and proof-read by Ernest Hemingway, the book was completed between 1903 and 1911, with the typing of the manuscript being done by her friend Alice B. Toklas.

The theme of this book is based on three generations of Stein's own family, encompassing the way of life and thinking characteristics of Americans.

First British Commonwealth edition; 8vo; internally clean; blue cloth hardcover, gilt lettering to spine, minor wear and toning to dustjacket; 925pp.
