London, printed for W. Cater; Samuel Hayes; J. Wilkie; and E. Easton, at Salisbury. 1776

These volumes are largely an account of observations made by the legendary English traveller Thomas Coryate (1577-1617) on his excursions in Europe in 1608, however the third volume contains letters sent from his travels across Persia and his time in residence in Eastern India at the court of the Great Moghol, 1612-1616. 'Coryate drew on his experiences in writing Coryats Crudities (1611), which was intended to encourage courtiers and gallants to enrich their minds by continental travel. It contains illustrations, historical data, architectural descriptions, local customs, prices, exchange rates, and food and drink' (ODNB).

First collected edition. 3 volumes, 8vo (14 x 21.5cm), 8 engraved plates, woodcut illustrations in text, later tree calf gilt, tan morocco labels, raised bands, neat repairs to extremities, an excellent set.
