American Neon Signs by Day & Night.

In the mid-to-late 1970s, Toon Michiels, a Dutch graphic designer and photographer, made a series of road trips across the United States, during which he became increasingly drawn to the neon signs outside motels and restaurants along the highways. To him and to most Europeans, they symbolised romantic notions of freedom, automobile culture, and the wide-open spaces of the American West. Michiels photographed these signs systematically, first in daylight, then again from the same position at night. This promotional book was produced to showcase the work of Rosbeek, the renowned Dutch printers, and was distributed to existing and potential clients.
