Ian Lancaster Fleming (1908–64), banker, Naval Intelligenceofficer, journalist and novelist, most famous of course for his creation of super secret agent James Bond. Fleming’s stories of Bond’s adventures spanned fourteen books, enshrined in the collective memory of multiple generations courtesy of the film adaptations starring Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig respectively.
James Bond first editions can range in value from low hundreds to tens of thousands of pounds. For more information please read our article here.
Fleming did write other books however, most notably perhaps Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, originally published in three volumes, also famously made into a film and, more recently, a stage musical.
The adventures of James Bond were continued in literary form as well as cinematic, including contributions by Kingsley Amis (“Robert Markham”), Raymond Benson, John Gardner and Sebastian Faulks.
