First edition, first issue, with errata leaf in volume I, errata uncorrected in the text, and all the relevant cancels; 6 vols, 8vo; single tiny wormhole in upper blank margin of the opening gathering of volume 1, some light spotting but generally clean; contemporary calf, spines tooled in gilt with gilt morocco lettering labels, minor restoration to joints and spine ends, headband of volume 3 chipped, housed together in a leather-entry slipcase

Browne [Phiz], frontispiece and first four illustrations in first state with imprint of Chapman and Hall (cf. Smith I, 5, p. 42), some minor toning and a few spots to plates, portrait of Dickens spotted (as usual) with transfer onto title-page opposite, plate 37 ('The breaking up at Dotheby's Hall') bound out of sequence after p. 620, small closed tears to list of plates professionally repaired at outer margin, very small loss to upper corner of pp. 501-502 (not affecting text); publisher's dark olive green cloth, front and back covers stamped in blind, recased with new yellow endpapers, spine slightly sunned, small closed tear at foot, extremities slightly bumped, othewise very good.

  5. 12 volumes, First editions in this format, first impressions throughout; 8vo; some typical, albeit mild, spotting to the fore edges and occasional oxidisation to the spine lettering of a few volumes; publisher's grey cloth, titles to spines gilt on purple ground, purple topstains, with the dust jackets. Withal an exceptional set in the dust jackets which show mild, even tanning at the spines.

First edition, first impression; 8vo; black-and-white illustrations by Sidney Paget, including frontispiece, scattered light foxing, otherwise unmarked internally, patterned endpapers; publisher's blue cloth, gilt and black text to upper board and spine, Strand Library device on upper board, all edges gilt, extremities rubbed, hinges cracked but holding, overall a very good copy; 279pp.

  7. 8vo; illustrations by the author; contemporary full chestnut morocco by Hatchard's Ltd., marbled endpapers and all edges gilt, fading to spine, with small stain to base and mild scratching to upper cover, otherwise very good and internally fine.

First edition; 8vo; monochrome portrait frontispiece signed by Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, numerous monochrome plates from photographs, mild peripheral spotting to preliminary and terminal leaves, mostly to the plain endpapers; publisher's maroon cloth, slight dust-soiling, pictorial dust-jacket, chipped and creased at extremities, three short, closed tears but in the main, a rare survival.

Second edition; 3 vols, 12mo; complete with all half-titles, bound without final blanks (as often); some slight foxing; contemporary sprinkled half-calf with marbled paper sides, spine ruled in compartments gilt, twin red morocco title labels, light rubbing at extremities, two volumes expertly rebacked preserving the original spines, some typical albeit light spotting throughout, a very good set; vol. I: [4], 306pp; ; vol. II: [4], 278pp; vol. III: [4], 294pp; housed in a leather-entry slipcase.

First edition; 8vo; frontispiece by John Everett Millais, 4pp. advertisements; small nick and corner crease to bottom edge of p. 7, very occasional mild soiling, mostly to preliminary and terminal pages; publisher's blue cloth, hinges and spine (darkened) professionally restored, a few, mild spots to endpapers, otherwise a good copy in all.
