First edition; folio (40.2 x 26.5 cm); 2 engraved portraits of Urry and Chaucer, engraved title-vignette, other engravings in-text, decorative initials and head- and tail-pieces throughout, some light toning, scattered light spotting; contemporary blind-tooled calf, spine gilt in compartments, red morocco title-piece with gilt lettering, boards slightly worn, corners slightly rubbed, overall a very good copy; [vi], 626, 81, [1, errata]pp.

First edition in book form ('latter' for 'letter', p. 160; 'flys' for 'flies', p. 245; 'visiters' for 'visitors', p. 272); 8vo (234 x 154 mm, 12¾ x 6 in); half-title, engraved portrait of Dickens after Daniel Maclise, 39 engraved plates by H.K. Browne [Phiz], frontispiece and first four illustrations in first state with imprint of Chapman and Hall (cf. Smith I, 5, p. 42), some minor toning and a few spots to plates, portrait of Dickens spotted (as usual) with transfer onto title-page opposite, plate 37 ('The breaking up at Dotheby's Hall') bound out of sequence after p. 620, small closed tears to list of plates professionally repaired at outer margin, very small loss to upper corner of pp. 501-502 (not affecting text); publisher's dark olive green cloth, front and back covers stamped in blind, recased with new yellow endpapers, spine slightly sunned, small closed tear at foot, extremities slightly bumped, othewise very good.

Withal an exceptional set in the dust jackets which show mild, even tanning at the spines.

First edition, first impression; 8vo; black-and-white illustrations by Sidney Paget, including frontispiece, scattered light foxing, otherwise unmarked internally, patterned endpapers; publisher's blue cloth, gilt and black text to upper board and spine, Strand Library device on upper board, all edges gilt, extremities rubbed, hinges cracked but holding, overall a very good copy; 279pp.

8vo; illustrations by the author; contemporary full chestnut morocco by Hatchard's Ltd., marbled endpapers and all edges gilt, fading to spine, with small stain to base and mild scratching to upper cover, otherwise very good and internally fine.

First edition; 8vo; monochrome portrait frontispiece signed by Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, numerous monochrome plates from photographs, mild peripheral spotting to preliminary and terminal leaves, mostly to the plain endpapers; publisher's maroon cloth, slight dust-soiling, pictorial dust-jacket, chipped and creased at extremities, three short, closed tears but in the main, a rare survival.

Second edition; 3 vols, 12mo; complete with all half-titles, bound without final blanks (as often); some slight foxing; contemporary sprinkled half-calf with marbled paper sides, spine ruled in compartments gilt, twin red morocco title labels, light rubbing at extremities, two volumes expertly rebacked preserving the original spines, some typical albeit light spotting throughout, a very good set; vol.
