A rare shape book. With rhyming verse designed to promote travel to Australia from England. The scenes depicted include Aborigines, sheep mustering, and a bullock team.
A wonderful celebration of Australia a hundred years after the European colonisation of the continent as a convict settlement. Few copies would have survived in such a fine state as the present example. Many would have ended up in the hands of children and quickly become quite worn around the irregular edges.
Die-cut shape book in the form of the Australian continent, 11.5 x 9 cm approx., 8pp within chromolithographic card covers, stitched as issued, chromolithograph illustrations throughout, a fine example.
