An attractive first edition of one of Osborne's few historical plays, set within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The play garnered some undeserved notoriety at the time for its theme of homosexuality: 'Never before have such explicit details of the conversation and attitudes of homosexuals been seen on the English stage' (Evening Standard).

First edition, first printing; 8vo; internally fine; publisher's cloth, a fine copy, photo-pictorial dust-jacket depicting the drag ball scene, very slightly rubbed at spine edges/ends and one corner, but overall a very good example.
