Fourth printing, an exceptional copy in the attractive dust jacket, of this important textbook originally published in 1929.
After obtaining his master's degree at Princeton, Oliver Dimon Kellog (1878-1932) studied in Europe with David Hilbert. Returning to the US, he worked at the University of Missouri and then Harvard. He was a leader in the field of potential theory - the study of harmonic functions, which are important in physics and strongly connected with probability and Markov chains. During the First World War he also participated in government research on submarine detection.
Fourth printing; 8vo; diagrams and equations within the text, contents fresh; original black cloth, titles to spine in silver, an excellent, fresh copy in the price-clipped dust jacket with just a hint of rubbing; 384 pp.
