'A speaker of French, Italian, Spanish, and German, Lake Price travelled extensively in Europe and was resident in Rome (1839–40) and Venice (1840–42). Many of his watercolours were based on places he had visited, as were his two volumes of lithographs, Interiors and Exteriors in Venice (1843) and Tauromachia, or, The Bull-fights of Spain (1852)' (ODNB).
Ford, connoisseur and author, was one of the leading British authorities on Spain, and was the author of the influential Handbook for Travellers in Spain published by John Murray.
First edition, large folio (65 x 46.5 cm), 16-page descriptive text in original wrappers, 26 fine hand-coloured lithograph plates, including additional title, mounted on card as issued, original red half morocco portfolio, light spotting to title and light discolouration to sky in most plates, overall a very attractive copy of a great rarity.
