Bol'shaia entsiklopediia slovar' obshchedostupnykh svedeniy po vsem otrasliam znaniia
[The Great Encyclopaedia...].
St Petersburg, Prosveshchenie, 1902-9.
The encylopedia was published over seven years by the publishing house Prosveshchenie in cooperation with the Bibliographical Institute in Leipzig and Wien - publishers of the Meyers Lexicon. Yuzhakov's work contains extensive information on Russian history, culture, social sciences and law. In terms of its quality and precision of its maps, it is far superior to the multi-volume edition of the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary. Individual articles show a high degree of liberalism and objectivity, which is particularly striking in the biographical articles on the Russian revolutionists, such as Ulyanov-Lenin.
