George Washington Bacon was an American mapmaker and publisher who developed a successful business producing maps of London. He became bankrupt in 1867 and in 1870 started his business, G.W. Bacon & Co., on 127 Strand, London. Around 1900, G.W. Bacon was purchased by the Scottish publishing house of W.& A.K. Johnston.
Hand-coloured lithograph map dissected into 42 sheets and laid on linen as issued, in original green cloth boards with gilt lettering. Lacking handbook and index, late 19th century. Overall size open: 98.5cm x 74.5cm and folds to 17.5cm x 11.5cm.
