Woman traveller in nineteenth century Syria. 'C. G., a British woman, made a trip through Syria, mostly on horseback, travelling from Bhamdoon. She visited Damascus and Lebanon, interesting herself in local manners and customs as well as the religious sites of teh region' (Theakstone).

First edition, 8vo, xii, 163 pp., 4 albumen prints, tissue-guards, occasional very faint spotting, previous owner's ink inscription to early blank, original green cloth, gilt, a fine copy.

Provenance: Inscribed to Edward Habershon (1826-1900) on his 50th birthday. Habershon was an architect who in 1862 became involved in the relocation of London's burial grounds.
