London.
Georg. Balthasar Probst, Augsburg, [c.1730].
From left to right, it graphically depicts all the major houses, buildings and churches from Somerset House to the Tower of London, with St.Paul's Cathedral dominating the skyline. London Bridge is seen resplendent with houses along its entire length (the houses were finally cleared in 1756). A key below the panorama is in English, German and Latin, and lists 70 of the most important sites and buildings and landmarks - including some 40 churches. The Thames is extremelly busy with numerous sailing and maritime craft. Above the map is the title on a ribbon banner, flanked by the Royal Arms, and those of The City. During his working lifetime, Werner worked for a number of well known German publishers - including Probst family. The city of Augsburg was a major European publishing centre during 17th and 18th centuries.
Hand-coloured engraved birds' eye view on two sheets, joined, key in German and English, one or two very small rust holes, otherwise very good.
