London, Methuen & Co, 1963

The Castafiore Emerald is the twenty-first volume of The Adventures of Tintin, originally serialised weekly in the Tintin magazine between July 1961 and September 1962. This Tintin adventure, describing the visit of opera singer Bianca Castafiore to Captain Haddock's Marlinspike Hall estate and the subsequent theft of her emerald, marked an experimental departure from Hergé's narrative formula. It is the only book in the series where the characters remain entirely at Marlinspike Hall and do not travel abroad to confront dangerous criminals.

First English edition; 4to (305 x 232 mm); small chip to bottom edge of p.19 (not affecting text or illustrations), slight, general toning (as usual); publisher's cloth-backed pictorial boards, pictorial endpapers (neat ink ownership to upper one), light rubbing and wear, outer corners worn but in the main a good, clean copy; 62pp.
