The Pax Britannica trilogy. James (later Jan) Morris was a British historian, author and travel writer. Educated at Lancing College, West Sussex, and Christ Church, Oxford. Morris is known particularly for the Pax Britannica trilogy, a history of the British Empire, from the accession of Queen Victoria to the throne in 1837 to the death of Winston Churchill in 1965.
First editions; 3 vols; 8vo (112 x 148 mm); photographic illustrations, ownership stamp to upper margin of half-title in the last vol., internally fine; publisher's red cloth gilt with black spine labels, world map endpapers, fore-edge of text block to second vol. dust-soiled, original pictorial dust-jackets, toned, slightly rubbed with minor creases to extremities, fading to spine of last vol., otherwise a very good set.
