The complete series of these books offering a guide to various professions to the young, written by eminent figures in their respective fields. The guide to being a Civil Servant, here present as an ex-library copy seems the most uncommon of all; it may be that a low-level of demand was anticipated amongst the young for details on the particular career-path. The dust-jacket designs are by Julian Trevelyan, who also wrote the first volume in the series, makes the set visually, most appealing.

First editions published from 1960-1968; 14 vols, crown 8vo (205 x 135 mm); a little browning to half-titles of some volumes, penultimate volume with library stamp and shelf-mark to title-page, otherwise near fine internally; publisher's boards in different colours, spines lettered in gilt, edges a little toned of spotted in some cases, the penultimate volume with library labels to front endpapers, eighth, eleventh and twelfth volumes with ownership inscription to flyleaf, seventh volume with publisher's 'File Copy' stamp on front pastedown and dust-jacket flap, the second volume with stamp of 'Queen's Nurse Magazine' to the flyleaf, illustrated dust-jackets all with individual designs by Julian Trevelyan wrapping round, some back-strip panels a little browned and slightly chipped at extremities, that to the sixth vol. with a couple of small round stickers to back-strip panel and a short closed tear to foot of upper joint-fold, the penultimate vol. with small abrasion to foot of back-strip panel (presumably from sticker removal), the remainder in fine condition and overall, a very good set indeed.
