The scarce collection of zoological and botanical reports of the under-appreciated Southern Cross Expedition. Contains extracts from the diary of zoologist Nicolai Hanson, who was in charge of the seal and bird specimen hunting and the only member of the crew to die on the expedition.

First edition; royal 8vo (25.5 x 17 cm); 53 plates including 9 in colour, 30 in-text photographs, 1 figure & 10 tables in text, bookplates to front pastedown and free endpaper, very light foxing to a few plates; publisher's original green cloth, gilt lettering to spine, a fine copy; ix, 344 pp.
