The Introduction includes commendations from noted contemporary composers, such as Ignaz Lachner, Louis Spohr and Georg Goltermann.
J.M. Jafet (Israel Meyer Japhet, 1818—1892) was a teacher, choir director and grammarian. He obtain his first choral director and religious teacher position at the age of 17. Later, as choir director at the Realschule (Adass Jeschurun) in Frankfurt am Main under Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, Japhet composed music for synagogue use, with many of his compositions still being used today.
First edition. 8vo (22.3 x 16 cm), contemporary cloth-backed boards, rubbed; text in German and Hebrew, additional hand-written note sheets bound in (8 out of the additional 32 pp. blank) and some loose note-sheets filled in pencil inserted; x, 86, [32] pp.
