A very good copy in half-green morocco of this popular facsimile reproduction of Edith Holden's diary from the year 1906, a naturalist's account in words and illustrations of the flora and fauna of the British countryside through the changing seasons of the year.

'The illustrator and amateur naturalist Holden began keeping her countryside journal, with delicate water-colours, in 1906. She died in 1920 but the diary was rediscovered after her death and published in 1977 as a "gift book"' (The Times, 16th August 2024). It spent 160 weeks in the charts, and placed twelfth in The Times' 2024 list of 100 best-selling books published in the past 50 years.

First edition, twelfth impression; small 4to (23.5 x 18.5 cm); facsimile reproduction; 20th-century half green morocco, green cloth, covers ruled in gilt and initialled 'J.P.L.', gilt spine in 6 compartments, faded, all edges gilt marbled slipcase, light wear, very good.
