'The illustrator and amateur naturalist Holden began keeping her countryside journal, with delicate water-colours, in 1906. She died in 1920 but the diary was rediscovered after her death and published in 1977 as a "gift book"' (The Times, 16th August 2024). It spent 160 weeks in the charts, and placed twelfth in The Times' 2024 list of 100 best-selling books published in the past 50 years.
First edition, twelfth impression; small 4to (23.5 x 18.5 cm); facsimile reproduction; 20th-century half green morocco, green cloth, covers ruled in gilt and initialled 'J.P.L.', gilt spine in 6 compartments, faded, all edges gilt marbled slipcase, light wear, very good.
