Scientific Progress comprises six essays that were originally presented as a lecture series for the Halley Stewart Trust, a charity that awards grants for projects intended to prevent human suffering, in 1935. The authors were all leading British academics, including Sir James Jeans who writes on the history of astronomy; Sir William Bragg on advancements in the physical sciences; Julian Huxley on 'science and its relation to social needs', and J.B.S. Haldane on eugenics with a paper titled 'human genetics and human ideals'.
