The first Russian edition of The Hobbit with wonderful illustrations by Mikhail Belomlinsky. As feet and legs are the same word in Russian, Belomlinsky did not realise the original English referred only to the feet and so depicted Bilbo Baggins with suitably hairy legs. He also based the character's looks on the real life Russian actor Yevegeny Leonev who was reportedly very pleased he'd been 'cast' in the book.

First Russian edition, 8vo (24.3 x 17 cm); translated by N. Rakhmanova, illustrated throughout with some full page, illustrated endpapers; original cloth backed pictorial boards, spine a little faded, corners a bit bumped else a fine copy.
