The first UK edition, first impression of the Russian émigré Vladimir Nabokov's (1899-1977) controversial novel Lolita.First published in Paris by the Olympia Press in 1955, the decision by Weidenfield and Nicolson to print the book in 1959 cost the MP Nigel Nicolson, one the company's directors, his political career.
First UK edition, first impression; 8vo; contemporary ownership inscription to front free endpaper, light foxing; publisher's black cloth, spine lettered in silver, slight spine lean, in the unclipped printed dust jacket, extremities chipped and nicked, spine lightly faded with some rubbing to front and rear panels, a very good copy.
