from the Fourth Folio
William Shakespeare's Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet extracted from the Fourth Folio edition published in 1685, and finely bound in terracotta goatskin to a 'cottage room' design.Romeo and Juliet was first published in a 'bad quarto' edition early in 1597, so-called for the numerous errors which suggest that it was a pirated publication and not based on the playhouse manuscript. The text was revised for the second quarto edition which appeared in 1598 and became the standardised text for all subsequent re-printings and the folio editions of the seventeenth century.
Fourth folio edition (35.5 x 23.5 cm); 12ff or 24pp (pp305-328) on stubs, 6D6 supplied in facsimile; finely bound in modern terracotta goatskin elaborately tooled in gilt to a 'cottage roof' design with, black morocco onlays, top edge gilt, housed in a morocco lined cloth slipcase; 24pp.
