William Wotton, D.D. (1666-1727) was a linguist and classical scholar, specialising in Latin, Greek and Hebrew. He studied at Catherine Hall, Cambridge, taking his degree in 1679, and later obtaining a fellowship at St. John's College, Oxford. He became chaplain to the Earl of Nottingham, who, in 1693, presented him with the rectory of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. He published works on the subjects of education, history and religion.
