A superb example of children's book design recounting the tale of Gutenberg and his printing press. Danko's poem opens in the city streets of the Soviet Union, where motor cars can be heard delivering the daily newspapers in the night. The day's news from around the world is transferred in to words and hence comes the story of where it all began, in the 'princely town' of Mainz Germany. Tronov's fantastic illustrations for the work are in the style of 15th century German woodcut prints yet also feature Red Army planes, trams and New York skyscrapers. This interesting work is notably scarce, with WorldCat locating only one copy at Harvard University.
