An attractive group of 5 illustrations of horses and their riders, likely part of a wider series produced in Rajasthan and executed in the Mewar school of miniature illustration. These are likely to have been painted during the reign of Maharana Ari Singh (1724-1773) and other similar examples, possibly from the same series, are published in Vicky Ducrot's Four Centuries of Rajput Painting (Skira, 2009).

5 illustrations of horses, ruled in red, some with contemporary annotations, each c. 235 x 260 mm; ink and gouache on card, some light surface soiling and a few small smudges, outer extremities lightly rubbed, overall bright an attractive condition, some ink inscriptions to versos.
