Lviv, A.N.U.M, 1933
The first great modern Ukrainian woman-painter'. A scarce monograph on Olena Kulchytska published by the Assocation of Independent Ukrainian Artists (which would be disbanded by the Soviet authorities in 1939). Kulchytska made her artistic debut in Lviv in 1908 and went on to study at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Thanks to her time spent in Austria, Kulchytska's work combined the folk art traditions of Western Ukraine, particularly, the Hutsuls, with the stylistic innovations of the European Secession. She was much admired by her contemporaries and in this particular work lauded as 'the first great Ukrainian woman-painter'.
