According to a contemporary account, 27 schooners, yawls and cutters took part in this event, organised by the Royal Thames Yacht Club. The start line was at the Nore, the mouth of the Thames Estuary, but described by the Illustrated London News report of the event as being staged between Gravesend and Harwich. The winning cutter yacht, Volante, was of 59 tons and had been built in 1850.

Original hand-coloured lithograph of this magnificent yacht in full sail. Small patch of sun streaking, otherwise in excellent condition.
