London, Clowes, 1876
Burton took up fencing while in Boulogne in the early 1850s, and was trained by a M. Constantin, a celebrated swordsman. This interesting work reflects his earlier work on the Bayonet published in 1853, a subject that had fascinated him from his youth. 'Very rare' (Penzer).
First edition. 8vo, half-title with wood-engraved motif, wood-engraved diagrams and illustrations, original cloth gilt, neat repairs to extremities, a very good copy.
Penzer page 93.
