Wendingen was an architecture and art magazine published in the Netherlands in the years 1918 to 1932. These two volumes dedicated exclusively to De Mesquita's graphic works, with the 1925 volume concentrating on human figures and 1931 volume concentrating mainly on depictions of animals.
Samuel Jessurun De Mesquita (1868-1944) was a Dutch-Jewish graphic artist and educator active in the years before the Second World War. His pupils included graphic artist M. C. Escher (1898–1972). During the Nazi occupation he, his wife and their only son perished in concentration camps.
First edition. Two vols, large 4to, (33 x 34 cm); wrappers with original woodcuts by the artist; double pages; edges slightly rubbed. Series 7, Vol. 1 - 36 pp. (signature and old stamps to cover); Series 12, Vol. 1 - 24 pp.
