Inscribed presentation copy. Inscribed: Rev Dr Parr / From the Author/ June 1814. Samuel Parr (1747-1825) was a renowned figure in late 18th and early 19th century England. A schoolmaster, writer, Doctor of Law and member of the clergy, he was known for his political writing and was a prolific correspondent, keeping up with many of his pupils including Sir William Gell (William Field Memoirs of Rev. Samuel Parr).

'A handsome production' (Blackmer). An account of the Argolid, the result of Gell's visits in 1801/2 and 1805/6. The aquatint plates illustrate sites in Mycenae.

First edition, 4to, inscribed presentation copy from Gell, 181 pp., engraved title, 5 engraved maps and plans, 22 plates, including 4 aquatints, a number folding, contemporary sprinkled calf, red morocco label, rebacked preserving spine, restoration to edges, spine rubbed, covers with scuff marks, a very good copy.
