An essay on Jewish colonisation and resettlement in Palestine by Samuel Tolkowsky (1886-1965), an agricultural engineer from Jaffa.

In his essay Tolkowsky surveys the achievements of the Jewish settlers so far, and establishes that they 'possess both the will and the capacity for carrying out the lofty ideal of Zionism: the reconstruction of the national home of the Jewish people in the country of their ancestors.

Tolkowsky was a Zionist activist in the World Zionist Organisation in London during WWI (after serving in the Belgian army, until its defeat); he was one of the founders of 'Tzairey Zion' youth organisation. Born in Antwerp he moved between Belgium, Britain and Palestine, before finally settling in Tel Aviv in 1919. Throughout his life Tolkowsky contributed to the development of the citrus growing industry in Israel and to the establishment of maritime transport and shipping industries in the country.

First edition, 8vo; original printed wrappers, light foxing to wrappers and page edges. 10 pp.
