poëme héroï-comique en dix-huit chants.
'Londres' [Paris or Geneva, Cazin], 1780
A notorious work in its time, especially when further enhanced and enlivened by illustrations of an erotic or risqué nature, as with this copy, ensuring it was inevitably one of the most suppressed and popular books of the eighteenth century.
18mo. Engraved frontispiece, engraved portrait of Jeanne d'Arc and 18 engraved plates (the so-called 'suite anglaise' by Marillier), tissue guards; mild foxing scattered throughout, ink ownership stamp 'Charron' on blank recto of frontispiece, contemporary blue silk endpapers. Contemporary red morocco, gilt fillet borders to covers, spine with gilt decorative compartments, gilt edges; slightly marked and rubbed with superficial wear to head of spine and one corner.
Pia Enfer, 1193; Cohen-de-Ricci 1032 (1777 edition).
