One of 350 copies signed. A Guide to Trees is concerned with the efforts made by governing bodies to present an acceptable or preferably impressive impression on visitors during official visits. Using a combination of texts, diagrams, and photographs, Yto Barrada presents an ironic guide for authorities to follow when preparing a city for such a visit. It includes the suggestions to paint walls white and to plant palm trees at regular intervals along main thoroughfares to induce the flicker effect, an agreeable neurological state brought on when driving past a palm tree every three seconds, with a disclaimer that the stroboscopic effect can be dangerous for those with photosensitive epilepsy.
