in original metal locket incorporating magnifying glass.
Vimperk, Czech Republic Hans Steinbrener, c. 1918.
Hans Steinbrener was a publishing house established in 1855 that held a Royal warrant to publish almanacs and religious texts in different European languages. Taking advantage of the new technique of photo-reduction Steinbrenner printed these Qu'rans from the late 1890s-1960s in Vimperk, or Winterberg, Czech Republic. The text, endpapers and bindings differ from the equivalent Bryce edition but the most notable distinction is the size (the Bryce Qur'an measuring only 28 x 20 mm).
Single volume, miniature lithographed Qur'an, in Arabic, complete, 33 x 22 mm (43 x 30 mm with case); clean and crisp condition, original patterned endpapers, housed in original gilt stamped limp morocco covers, in contemporary decorated metal case with magnifying glass.
