author's presentation copy
With the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'For Justin Wintle Yours in present time Brion Gysin'. The recipient is a journalist, editor and writer of travel books. Gysin's novel is itself a work about the Journey, set mostly in Saharan Africa the desert, with which Gysin was of course deeply connected, serves as a microcosm of the world in general. The author, perhaps best known for his development of the cut-up method of composition utilised by William Burroughs and later David Bowie, was also a considerable graphic artist. This novel is rarely found as here in presentation state, indeed we have not previously handled an example.First UK edition, first impression, author's presentation copy; 8vo; binding flaw to pp.331-2 and pp.345-6 (all text there but read with some difficulty); publisher's black boards, titles to spine gilt, grey topstain, with the pictorial dust jacket designed by the Moroccan artist Hamri; a near-fine copy in the mildly sunned dust jacket.
