Signed. Bruce Davidson's Subway is an epoch-defining series that marked his shift from the black and white of his early work and first book, East 100th Street (1970), to colour. He began this series in the spring of 1980, initially photographing in black-and-white, but enjoyed the results when he tried colour and spent five years working on it when New York's subway system was at its lowest point regarding reliability, cleanliness, and safety.
