Paris, Tériade, 1956
'One of the very few major Bible illustrations of the 20th century... Chagall combines the majesty of the Jewish tradition with the wit of popular art'. The work was first requested by Vollard in 1931 and completed for Tériade in 1956. The text is from the French Geneva translation of 1638.
2 vols, limited edition, one of 275 copies on montval paper, this numbered 73, signed by Chagall in ink on the justification, from a total edition of 295, folio (44 x 34 cm); half-title, title, text in French and 105 etchings in black and white, with tissue guards, loose as issued, publisher's printed wrappers, in original cloth backed grey chemises and slipcase, an excellent example.
