First edition of the first critical volume of Lindsay's work. David Lindsay spent much of his life reclusive, poor, and unpopular, but after his death in 1945, an enthusiasm began to develop for his novels as readers became more receptive to his metaphysical, gnostic, and fantastical way of writing. This book, presented here in a very good condition first edition, was the first to collect, reassess, and re-publicise the work of David Lindsay, combining criticism and biography to make a fascinating and pivotal academic intervention. The project was initiated by Colin Wilson, who discovered Lindsay in 1963 and believed him to be 'one of most important writers of this century'. The 60s signified this increasing cognisance of Lindsay's work, with his novels being reprinted by Victor Gollancz in 1963, 64, and 68, and concurrently as popular paperbacks in the US.
