David W. Phillipson (b.1942) is the current Emeritus Professor of African Archaeology at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and was Director of the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology of the University of Cambridge for 25 years. His most notable work has been in Ethiopia, particularly on the archaeology of Aksumite sites.
