Cambridge, at the University Press, 1938
The present work is a popular account of Einstein's relativity theories, with historical background covering earlier theoretical frameworks such as Newtonian physics. Einstein's co-author, Leopold Infeld (1898-1968), was a Polish physicist who gained entry to the University of Berlin with Einstein's help and, after earning his PhD in 1921, worked at the Universities of Lviv and Toronto. His most important contributions to physics were the Born-Infeld model of non-linear electrodynamics and the Infeld-Hull factorisation method for the Schrödinger equation.
First edition; 3 plates, pencilled ownership signature to the half title, scattered spotting to contents and edges of text block; original blue cloth, titles to spine and design to upper board in silver, cloth lightly rubbed at the extremities, spine rolled and partially toned corresponding to the lighter portion of the jacket, a very good copy in the price-clipped jacket that is lightly rubbed and partially tanned with some small spots and marks; 319pp.
