Beatrice Caroline Erskine (d. 1948) was a rare breed of author who travelled specifically to write, rather than the other way round. Although in many senses a tourist, writing light historical non-fiction to accompany the illustrations of her regular collaborator Major Benton Fletcher (1866-1944), she was nevertheless a keen student of Arabia. She published an authorised account of King Faisal of Iraq in 1933, and was considered an authority on the 'lost cities' of Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia, and Algeria.

First edition; 8vo (24 x 16.5 cm); 40 plates, 8 of which in colour, clean and crisp internally; publisher's red cloth, gilt spine, original pictorial dust-jacket frayed and a little soiled with small tear with loss to head, text and binding fine; 324pp.

Robinson Wayward Women, 180.
