1989
The Waves series incorporates all three major motifs of the Moby Dick Project; the first appearance of the wave-whale shape, the array of gutter shapes that the artist would develop during the history of the project, and the lattice shape. In 'The Hyena', these motifs interact with each other through a collage of vibrant colours, punctuated by a cluster of deep blue curves that seem to crash like a wave, right out of the work's surface.
Screenprint, lithograph and linoleum in colours with collage, marbling and hand-colouring, 1989, on T. H. Saunders and Somerset papers, signed in pencil, dated, numbered 26/60 from the edition of 60 (there were also ten artist's proofs), printed by Trestle Editions and Brand X, New York, published by Waddington Graphics, London, 172 x 139 cm.
