First edition, the publisher's file copy, of this significant work by Nobel Prize winning chemist Sir Walter Norman Haworth (1883-1950), who was responsible for determining the molecular structures of numerous sugars, including maltose and lactose, and whose work helped to settle the basic features of the starch, cellulose, glycogen, inulin and xylan molecules.

First edition, publisher's file copy; 8vo; frontispiece and 1 plates from monochrome photographs, contents partially unopened, publisher's file copy stamp and number 24783 to title; original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt, publisher's file copy ticket pasted to the upper board, cloth lightly rubbed at the extremities but overall bright and fresh, excellent condition; 100pp.
