The title changed to Rheinlande in 1854 and this edition still describes Alsace as part of France. This edition was probably one of the first to be bound in the red cloth that became the "Baedeker" trademark binding. It is very unusual to find an early edition in such good condition.
Ninth edition. xxxvi, 328 pp, 16 engraved views, 21 maps and plans, several small text vignettes, 4pp publisher's advert at front of volume, some slight spotting on a few pages; publisher's old type red cloth gilt; a mint copy.
