Robert George Talbot Kelly (1861–1934) was a professional painter who established a studio in Cairo in 1883 and stayed for 32 years. He spent a considerable time with the Bedouin tribes who he depicts in this work in a dedicated chapter "The Desert and the Bedawin", including a description of the rules of single combat in the desert.
Third impression; 8vo (22.5 x 16.5 cm); 75 colour plates after Kelly, contemporary gift inscription, light spotting to first and last few gatherings and the occasional spot elsewhere; contemporary half morocco by Riviere and son, vellum boards with gilt and green morocco to upper board, elaborately gilt decorated spine in six compartments with small green morocco inlays, top edge gilt, boards a little bowed, otherwise fine; xiii, 246pp.
